Today the Higher Education is controlled and maintained by the University Grants Commission in India. They keep the quality of education on par with the international standards, which is a heritage India acquired since the British occupation, Education system in India can be dated centuries back because it was in India, that great scholars and sages through scriptures imparted knowledge on various subjects like philosophy, religion, medicine, literature, mathematics, sociology, etc. Later under Buddhist influence, Indian education became available to anyone who wanted it and this led to the creation of some famous monasteries and universities like Nalanda, Vikramshila and Takshila in the 13th century.
Today, Indian education comprises of one of the largest higher and secondary education system in the world. This has been made possible by a large number of schools, colleges and universities that are offering diverse courses. Moreover, the distance learning courses and online degrees are also helping in the  democratization of the Indian education system.
In a world that is growing technology everyday, Indian universities and institutes of higher education and research have made a significant contribution to transmission of knowledge in these technological sectors. The Indian Institutes of technology and various engineering colleges in India are playing a very important role in this regard. Apart from the technocrats, India is also known for producing effective managers for diverse sectors of the economy. Thus today, India is known as the talent-pool of the world, where intelligent, educated people are very easy to find, and this fact has definitely given a boost to Indian education.
The function of education is to create human beings who are integrated and therefore intelligent. We may take degrees and be mechanically efficient without being intelligent. Intelligence is not mere information; it is not derived from books, nor does it consist of clever self-defensive responses and aggressive assertions. One who has not studied may be more intelligent than the learned. We have made examinations and degrees the criterion of intelligence and have developed cunning minds that avoid vital human issues. Intelligence is the capacity to perceive the essential, the what is; and to awaken this capacity, in oneself and in others, is education.
Since then all fields of Education remained up-to-date in quality and in quantity. Medical education, Engineering education or any type of professional education be it, it remains so even now.
